Farming, Floods, and God’s Faithfulness

Hello, from the farm!

The month of September we set out complete the following goals:

  • Weed 21 rows of blueberries (a total of 1,000 plants)

  • Weed 2 rows of blackberries (100 plants)

  • Weed 3 rows of fruit trees (45 trees)

  • Lay down landscaping fabric on the rows most affected by weeds (1,000+ ft of fabric)

  • Spread organic fertilizer powder on all 1,145 plants (berries and trees) by hand

  • Top the rows with wood chips and sawdust (multiple tons shoveled by Rod)

On Monday, September 30th Sarah and Lin finished the last 7 rows, which concludes our winter preparations! The “weed and feed season” sets our crops up for success in Spring of 2025, which we hope and pray will bring a bountiful harvest.

By the time this letter reaches you, the news of hurricane Helene has likely come across your phones and TV screens. By God’s grace the farm was not affected by the widespread flooding, and we are most grateful! In the wake of the recent devastation in the nearby areas (some just 10 minutes away), we grieve with our community for the loss of homes, businesses, and life. This natural disaster is being considered the worst on record as it has affected Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee. We can attest to the fact that upon viewing the affected areas, we were left absolutely at a loss for words.

We know the rebuilding of many towns will take years, with some never being built as they were prior to this travesty. Please join us in praying for those who are attempting to pick up the pieces of their lives during the next few months especially, for the relief workers who are searching earnestly for the over 100 people still missing, and for us to be a light and willing hand to those who are in need.
